I always get excited when we start a new school year. I’ve been busy getting my brain in gear with the business of start-up, but more importantly making plans with learning and leadership in mind.
Our Admin team blog is focused on “180 Days of Learning”. Before I share any news, celebrations or ponderings about Learning I feel I need to start with my core belief. So my first blog to kick-off the year is a reflection of what learning is, what it means to me and how learning needs to be.
Learning means knowledge, growth and opportunity. True learning is meaningful and continuous. Combined, it allows us to gain the power to make informed decisions, to contribute in significant ways and to be skilled to take on various challenges. Life-long learning opens many doors.
Experiencing true learning only happens in certain ways, and when the right circumstances allow it to flourish. Learning has to be relevant, flexible and exciting. Learning needs to be personalized and unique like every person. In turn, it will create passion to know and do more. Learning has to be done right.
As educators, we have to be open to learning and actively learn ourselves. I have always believed that learning happens best when both classroom teacher and students are engaged in what and how they learn, while they build trusting and caring relationships. Both students and teachers can accelerate their own learning together. What better way to achieve, than with a shared growth mindset.
Learning is to Engage, Enrich, Empower! Undoubtedly, my role is all about fostering true learning for both my teachers and students. To have true impact, I need to go above and beyond. I look forward to it. Stay tuned.
